This is the cake for Captain M.C. Shmidt, captain of the argonauts and inventor of the time machine. (Not really, I believe the time machine was invented by H.G. Wells? or at least he wrote the book). This cake is actually a themed cake with the theme being "Steampunk". Since steampunk is a bit Science fiction and fantasy rolled into actual inventions and set in the Victorian period (but actually a movement of the 1980's- confused yet?) I got to make up my own story to go along with this cake, so I decided that Captain Shmidt would be the fictional customer of this cake. O.K. so now that's the background. (This cake is actually for a Steampunk themed cake competition). So think of time machines, argonauts (or air pirates), steam engines, clocks, steam locomotives, steam boats, top hats, brass, wood grain, gears and watch parts, chains, solar flare goggles, and anything to do with flight.... I daydreamed and sketched till I came up with this cake.

O.K. so this is a 3-tiered (6", 8", 10") cake covered with Marshmallow Fondant and decorated with gears, goggles, clock, watch pieces, chains, key and lock, rivets and a time machine pilots pin sculpted out of Wilton Brand ready made fondant. All the cake is hand painted with gel food color and luster dusts for the metallic sheen. Hope you guys like it, I had a lot of fun making it, and it was quite the challenge I needed to get me thinking outside the cake box!! Thank you Aaron, Summer, and Mac for teaching me the 3-D design and sculpture lessons I needed for this cake, and Susanna K., Sean C., and Judea J. you guys artwork was an inspiration in different ways, not to mention, this is Judea's honorary Birthday cake since I never made her one! Oh, and thanks to my hubby for taking and editing the photo and building the backdrop!!
This was a 51st Birthday cake for someone who recently started raising chickens. Her Birthday was in April, so we decided to go with a chicken/spring theme. This cake was a french vanilla cake with buttercream icing and marshmallow fondant. This was a carved cake with sculpted fondant "chicken feet".

Thanks to all of you who submitted photos of past cakes! I really appreciate the help. If you still want to add a cake to the blog you can send the photo to me.
This is the wedding cake for the bride who wanted a very rich, deep red and white wedding. This was a vanilla wedding cake with buttercream icing. The tiers were 6" and 10"
This cake was for a lady who was actually in her 40's, but the customer thought it would be funny if the cake looked as if the decorator had messed up her age (thinking she was younger). This was a 1/4 sheet vanilla cake with vanilla whipped icing.
This is just an example of a few of the Buttercream flowers that I do.
This was a pretty and petite cake I did for an Easter gathering. The customer wanted pastel colored buttercream roses (her grandkids like lots of icing!) on a white cake. This cake was a small, 1/8 sheet white cake with vanilla buttercream icing.
This was a cupcake cake containing 24 cupcakes (1 dozen vanilla, 1 dozen chocolate) and decorated to look like a crocodile.
This couple wanted a 1/2 sheet all chocolate cake for a groom's cake. This cake was chocolate, with chocolate buttercream icing and had pipework to match the wedding cake.
This was a retirement cake for a man who loves his wife, driving his Dodge Ram, the University of Arkansas, Razorbacks, and being retired! This was a 1/2 sheet cake with airbrushed icing and hand piped details.
This was the nicer version of the 25th birthday cake for my husband. This was actually a cake made up of miniature strawberry cupcakes with cream cheese icing.
This is the first (and probably last) adult theme birthday cake I have ever done. This cake was for my husbands 1/4 of a century birthday. He is a huge Atlanta Braves baseball fan and I thought it would be funny to make a cake with a woman wearing the jersey, well, my boss at the time (who is also a fan of baseball, he just roots for the Cardinals) thought it would be a good idea to leave the jersey open to show the woman behind the jersey. This cake was the result. This cake was a 1/2 sheet shaped cake. Part of the cake was strawberry, part of the cake was butter with sprinkles (to look like "funfetti"). The cake is covered in cream cheese icing with fondant jersey and jewelry.

This was a cake for my younger brother Colton. He was passionate about skittles and soccer at the time. His team colors were blue and white (with some black), so we used blue in the background with the skittles rainbow on the cake. The cake board was covered in piped grass and skittles, and the cake itself was chocolate with buttercream icing.

This cake was a 1/4 sheet white cake with whipped icing. The flowers are also made out of whipped icing and consist of: roses, carnations, mums and orchids.

This was a very, very special cake. How many people do you know that get to celebrate 100th Birthdays?! This man served his country, his friends, family, community and church. He is very active at his young age and enjoys life and gatherings. He earned recognition as a Navy Chaplin, Chaplin Eritous, and an Honorary life member of his local American Legion (just to name a few of his honors). This was a full sheet, 1/2 white, 1/2 chocolate cake with buttercream icing and edible images.

Once again, sorry about the poor photograph, I believe this one was taken on my cell phone, and it is very crooked.
This is a photo of a guitar shaped cake that I did for my step-father in law. This cake is a 1/2 sheet carved cake. It is half butter cake, half rich chocolate cake (like devil's food) with black buttercream icing.

This is a 1/2 sheet cake I did for a local school. They had a "Parent Appreciation Night" and wanted a cake that looked as if little kids had decorated it using crayons, scissors, paints, etc. If I remember correctly, this cake was half white, and half chocolate cake with buttercream icing.
This is a photo of my mother in law's Birthday Cake from last year. My husband drew up the image and I transferred it onto the cake. This was an 8'' 2 layer yellow cake with buttercream icing.
This is the picture of the grooms cake that went with the "Camo Wedding Cake". It was supposed to match a wood grain plaque that the bride brought in. They later put a deer figurine in the middle of the cake.... too bad I did not have the picture with the deer in the middle, would have made the cake complete.
This was my first "Camo Wedding" Cake. The bride decided that she wanted "Mossy Oak" ribbon wrapped around the bottom of each tier of the cake, and she also wanted brown ribbon piped around each tier, and brown dots around the top to bring out the "leaves" on the camo ribbon. This was a white cake with buttercream icing. The layers were 6", 10" and 12".

This was a customer after my own heart. I met with her to decide what she wanted for a wedding cake, after some discussion and image sharing she told me she wanted a cake iced with white buttercream with matching white ribbon around the bottom of each tier. She also knew that she wanted pink lady gerbera daisies scattered among the tiers. This was so similar to my own taste seeing as I too had a 3-tiered, stacked cake without borders for my wedding, and I also used gerbera daisies... they just happened to be in fall colors. This cakes tiers were 8", 10" and 12".

*A bonus to this cake... the top and bottom tiers are white cake with the center tier being strawberry, even when the cake was cut the pink and white theme could be seen!
O.K. guys... Here is the picture of the 40th Wedding Anniversary Cake as it was set up for the party. The daughter of the couple wanted the cake in the corner of the table with her parents original cake cutting photograph from 40 years earlier! How sweet! She also had her mother's Wedding Dress set up on a mannequin and photos of her parents throughout the different stages of their life together. This was a very fun project to work on, and I was glad to get to be a part of the celebration!
This cake had 6", 8", and 10" layers.
This is a photo taken of the first cake I decorated in this new little town of mine. The order was for a half sheet cake to go along with a 3-tiered 40th Wedding Anniversary cake. The customer wanted buttercream icing with a monogram of the letter "C" piped in black icing to match the Anniversary Party Invitations. This is the end result of the sheet cake documented in a crooked photograph. I will work harder next time at better photos of my cakes as you can see, or "can't see" the borders of this cake.
